Miles to go for new Easter shoes and a chick…

When Easter came around in McComb, Mississippi,  you went downtown to Vest’s Shoe Store to pick out a new pair of shoes.  And, when you left, you got your pick of a chick in your choice of bright Easter colors.  The chicks were in a huge metal cage out front and it was so much fun to pick the one you wanted…even if the color started growing out before you got the chick home.  Never did my chicks live through Easter Sunday, but I will never forget the fun of shopping for shoes and picking one out.  A friend of mine, Leigh Ann Gibson, took this picture at the McComb Cooperative where they still have chicks in bright Easter colors for sale…and you don’t even have to buy a pair of Easter shoes to get one.  Bring on Easter weekend!  The chicks have arrived in McComb!
